In San Francisco, there is a constant complaint about how hard it is to form deep friendships. I call this phenomenon “Artificial Intimacy” (AI). Due to the high prevalence of individuals in the Bay who actively seek mental health wellness and consume a significant amount of social media therapy content, there is a tendency for people to use therapy-speak and tactics to form quick trauma bonds with others. However, they often fail to show up consistently over time.
Intentions matter, and I appreciate that you wrote about the importance of authentically showing up and vulnerably connecting with your friends 💞

This is truth! I’m in my own reckoning of this . My issue: I have reached a point of exhaustion on being the one to reach out, initiate, ask. Been a leader in all areas of my life for a long time … I am now letting the Universe know I seeking reciprocal relationships. 🙏🏼
I hear you on this. If you haven't listened to her podcast yet, check out Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship. I struggled with this a lot, too, and Nina helped me see a different way of looking at the lack of reciprocation. But I totally get what you're saying because it's hard not to feel slighted or not cared for when we're always the ones to reach out.
I'm trying to be more understanding that not everyone is great at making plans but I also don't want to be the one always chasing friends down. So I hear you!!
